South Jersey Gas Urges Residents to Check Utility Workers’ Identification Due to Suspected Scam

FOLSOM, NJ, November 16, 2016 – South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of South Jersey Industries, Inc. (NYSE: SJI), urges all residents to confirm the identification of any utility workers requesting to enter their homes or access their property as a safety precaution due to reported concerns of imposters in the area. South Jersey Gas employees carry identification cards that display their photo, full name, employee number, signature, and company logo.

“To ensure customers’ safety, we advise residents to ask all utility workers to show their IDs,” said Jeffrey DuBois, president of South Jersey Gas. “All South Jersey Gas employees carry or wear official identification cards. Any South Jersey Gas employee who needs to enter a home will gladly present his or her identification card for customer review.”

Residents will also know South Jersey Gas employees by their trucks and uniforms. If an individual cannot produce identification, call the police immediately. Residents may also call the South Jersey Gas Customer Care Center at 1-888-766-9900 to verify if gas utility work was scheduled on or near their premises.
