Avoid Telephone Scams: Tips from South Jersey Gas

FOLSOM, NJ, March 28, 2017 – With telephone scams increasing, South Jersey Gas reminds customers that its representatives will never request credit card information over the phone.  Our Customer Care team members also will never ask customers to purchase gift cards and call back with their codes. 
 
“To ensure customers don’t fall victim to a fraud, we advise them to be cautious,” said Dave Robbins, president of South Jersey Gas. “Residents and business owners can always call us back to verify requests are legitimate.”
 
South Jersey Gas representatives return customers’ calls to answer inquiries. They also call customers directly when monthly budget plan amounts require updating based on natural gas use. Our representatives always verify account information first. 
 
Payments toward utility bills are transacted independently by customers. Customers can choose from mailing a check, calling South Jersey Gas’ Pay By Phone service, visiting a payment center, setting up a recurring payment, or making a one-time payment from their bank account. Payment option information and links to make an online transaction are on SouthJerseyGas.com.
 
Residents should also confirm the identity of a utility worker requesting to enter their home or access their property. South Jersey Gas employees carry identification cards that display their photo, full name, employee number, signature and company logo. In addition, South Jersey Gas employees are known by their trucks and uniforms.  If an individual cannot produce identification, call the police immediately.
