South Jersey Gas to Begin Construction in Hamilton Township as Part of Safety and Reliability Enhancements

FOLSOM, N.J., June 28, 2017 – South Jersey Gas advises residents, business owners, and motorists in Hamilton Township that construction work will begin on or about Wednesday, July 5 (weather permitting) to enhance its infrastructure as part of the Accelerated Infrastructure Replacement Program. The work is expected to be completed by December 2017.

Installation of 2”, 4” and 6” yellow plastic natural gas mains will take place along E. Black Horse Pike from Lowell Avenue to Harding Highway (Rt. 40), and Harding Highway (Rt. 40) from E. Black Horse Pike to Old Egg Harbor Road.

There will be a lane shift on Harding Highway during construction and the Black Horse Pike may have a lane closed during nighttime construction.

The program’s primary focus is the accelerated replacement of aging bare steel mains with more durable plastic pipe, providing significant safety and reliability benefits for customers.

All excavations will be restored on a daily basis. A temporary repair will be made in most cases until the final restoration occurs. Openings in concrete will be temporarily patched with asphalt until final restoration with concrete occurs. Final restorations and paving in the area are anticipated to be completed by spring 2018. All restorations are completed in compliance with local and county regulations.

South Jersey Gas or its contractors will contact customers to gain access to properties with gas service to complete this work. Crews will work Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. There is also a possibility that work will be performed on some Saturdays to accommodate customer appointments, with the township’s approval. Additionally, portions of work along E. Black Horse Pike may
be performed at night to comply with New Jersey Department of Transportation lane closure restrictions.

If residents have questions or would like more information about this project, please contact the South Jersey Gas Atlantic Division in Pleasantville at (609) 645-2690, extension 6459 and reference the Rt. 40 (Old Egg Harbor Road—Black Horse Pike) project.
