South Jersey Gas to Continue Construction in Pleasantville as Part of Safety and Reliability Enhancements

FOLSOM, N.J., February 27, 2017 – South Jersey Gas wants to advise residents, business owners, and motorists in Pleasantville that construction work will begin on or about Monday, March 6 (weather permitting). South Jersey Gas is performing this work to enhance its infrastructure as part of the Accelerated Infrastructure Replacement Program.

Installation of 2”, 4”, and 6” yellow plastic natural gas mains will take place along Main Street and New Road, including Risley Lane, Washington Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Pleasant Avenue, Lake Place, Adams Avenue, Woodland Avenue, West Merion Avenue, Franklin Avenue, Madison Avenue, 1st Street, 2nd Street, 3rd Street, 4th Street, Old Turnpike, Charles Avenue, Grant Avenue, Chester Avenue, and associated streets.

The program’s primary focus is the accelerated replacement of aging bare steel and cast iron mains with more durable plastic pipe, providing significant safety and reliability benefits for customers.

All excavations will be restored on a daily basis. A temporary repair will be made in most cases until the final restoration occurs. Openings in concrete may be temporarily patched with asphalt until final restoration with concrete occurs. Openings made in the grass during the winter season may not be restored until there is warmer weather in order to facilitate grass growth.  Final restorations and paving in the area are anticipated to be completed by September 2017. All restorations are completed in compliance with local and county regulations.

South Jersey Gas or its contractors will contact customers to gain access to properties with gas service to complete this work. Crews will work Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. There is also a possibility that work will be performed with the City’s approval during the same timeframe on some Saturdays to accommodate customer appointments. Additionally, work on Route 9 may be performed at night to ease traffic impacts and comply with NJDOT requirements. If residents have questions or would like more information about this project, please contact the South Jersey Gas Atlantic Division at (609) 645-2690, extension 6459 and reference the Pleasantville Grid 2 Project.
