South Jersey Gas to Upgrade a Portion of Camden County System For Customer and Infrastructure Reliability

FOLSOM, N.J., Aug. 30, 2017 – To ensure service reliability for customers in the region, South Jersey Gas received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to install a new distribution pipeline in a portion of Camden County. The five-mile system upgrade will improve the local distribution system enhancing the area’s infrastructure for years to come and also repurpose the existing smaller line. Without this work, local operating pressure in Camden and Burlington counties could become inadequate and result in customer outages in the region on peak demand days, the coldest days during the heating season.

The project is anticipated to begin Sept. 11, 2017 and take approximately nine months to complete, creating nearly 60 full-time construction and inspection jobs for the duration of the project.
“We worked collaboratively with the communities involved and their governing agencies to plan the project,” said Paul Zuccarino, senior vice president and chief operations officer for South Jersey Gas. “Our goal is to complete the work in a safe and efficient manner, as expeditiously as possible.”
The construction route starts in Magnolia, just north of the New Jersey Turnpike, and continues through various municipalities along East Atlantic Avenue, Laurel Road, and Blackwood-Clementon Road in Camden County. Three pressure regulating stations along the route will also be upgraded as part of the project. The affected municipalities include the Borough of Lawnside, Borough of Magnolia, Borough of Somerdale, Borough of Hi-Nella, Borough of Stratford, Borough of Barrington, Borough of Laurel Springs, Borough of Lindenwold, Borough of Pine Hill, and Gloucester Township.
South Jersey Gas remains committed to working with each local municipality, the county and state to assure a well-coordinated approach to the line’s construction and station installations. A timeline and traffic management plan is in place to minimize disruption to commuters and affected residents. Updates will be available throughout the project at
At South Jersey Gas, safety is our priority. Keeping our customers, the community, and the environment protected shapes everything we do.
