South Jersey Gas Supports Pleasantville Fire Department With $3,000 First Responders Grant

FOLSOM, N.J. –  South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of SJI (NYSE: SJI), recently presented the Pleasantville Fire Department with a $3,000 grant as part of the company’s First Responders Grant Program. Pleasantville Fire Department is one of eight recipients selected to receive the latest round of grants from South Jersey Gas. The grant funds will be used to purchase combustible gas meters and the accompanying calibration equipment, as well as personal gas monitors.

“South Jersey Gas is proud to support the Pleasantville Fire Department and assist local first responders through our First Responders Grant Program,” said Dave Robbins, president of South Jersey Gas. “These grants provide lifesaving equipment, innovative technology and valuable training to departments across the region. We congratulate the Pleasantville Fire Department and recognize their efforts to ensure the overall safety and protection of those they serve.”

Combustible gas meters, calibration equipment and personal gas monitors help firefighters detect gasses like Methane, Propane and Ethanol when responding to calls in the field. These gasses often go undetected and are very dangerous in households and businesses when heat and flames are present.

“On behalf of the Pleasantville Fire Department, we thank South Jersey Gas for their grant donation and generous support,” said Chief Steve Wilkins. “Keeping our equipment up to date is imperative – not only to the safety of our firefighters, but more importantly the residents and businesses we serve.”

“I am proud to recognize the members of Pleasantville Fire Department and congratulate them on this honor,” said Pleasantville Mayor Jesse Tweedle, Sr. “Under the leadership and guidance of Chief Wilkins, this grant will help ensure our firefighters can best serve and protect those within the community, which is our top priority. On behalf of Pleasantville residents, City officials and public safety departments, I extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to South Jersey Gas for this generous donation.”

The First Responders Grant Program will be offered again in fall 2018. All First Responders Grant Program recipients represent local police, fire or emergency medical services departments that are comprised of paid or volunteer staff members serving residents in municipalities located within the utility’s service area. Program information, eligibility guidelines and applications are available on the South Jersey Gas website at: www.southjerseygas.com/community.
