Contractors and Excavators Invited to Free Damage Prevention Seminar
Underground Utility Safety presented by South Jersey Gas
, February 14, 2017 – To continue its educational program focused on safety and public awareness, South Jersey Gas invites contractors and excavators who dig as part of their operations to sign up for one of four free Damage Prevention Seminars to be held in the coming weeks at various locations throughout southern New Jersey.
The session’s topics include procedures and legal requirements that govern underground facility protection; utility operator and excavator responsibilities; and best practices to follow for safe digging.
Anyone interested in attending can sign up online at http://www.nj1-call.org/training-and-safety/damage-prevention-seminars/
- Carneys Point, NJ on February 22
- Blackwood, NJ on March 1
- Mays Landing, NJ on March 22
- Westampton, NJ on April 7
Under the theme of “shared responsibility,” the interactive seminars are attended by utility operators, locators, and contractors from both the municipal and private sectors.
The sessions take place in the late winter, prior to the spring thaw, in anticipation of many excavation projects that start in the warmer months. They help to also kick off “Safe Digging Month” in April, which serves as a reminder for all excavators, including homeowners, about the importance of underground utility safety and calling 811 before any digging project, even planting a tree or shrub.
