South Jersey Gas Supports Mannington Township Fire Company With $3,000 First Responders Grant

FOLSOM, N.J. – South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of South Jersey Industries (NYSE: SJI), recently presented the Mannington Township Fire Company with a $3,000 grant as part of the company’s First Responders Grant Program. Mannington Township Fire Company is one of eight recipients selected to receive the latest round of grants from South Jersey Gas. The grant funds will be used by the department to purchase a new stair chair and accompanying tread system to assist their EMS department.
“South Jersey Gas is proud to assist local first responders through our First Responders Grant Program,” said Dave Robbins, president of South Jersey Gas. “These grants will help provide lifesaving equipment and training to ensure these departments have the tools necessary to serve. We are proud to partner with the Mannington Township Fire Company and value their bravery and commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all they serve.”
The stair chair and stair tread system are tools used together to assist EMS personnel in transporting patients safely up and down staircases without having to manually lift a person. The tread system safely “glides” a chair containing an injured or sick person up or down a staircase, reducing the risk of injuries to responding EMS personnel while ensuring patients are safely transported in emergency situations.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to South Jersey Gas for selecting us for this grant award,” said Mannington Township Fire Company Assistant Chief Tim Butcher. “The addition of the stair chair and stair tread system as part of our EMS response fleet is a real benefit – not only to our residents, but also our responders. This system will allow our personnel to safely assess, respond and transport patients in all types of situations and various locations. On behalf of our residents, we thank them for this generous donation and continued support.”
“As mayor, the safety and wellbeing of our residents is a top priority,” said Mannington Township Mayor Donald C. Asay. “With this generous grant, our first responders are able to purchase this essential transport equipment and better serve those in need throughout the community. We thank our friends at South Jersey Gas for their generosity and congratulate the Mannington Township Fire Company on this honor.”
The First Responders Grant Program will be offered again in Fall 2018. All First Responders Grant Program recipients represent local police, fire or emergency medical services departments that are comprised of paid or volunteer staff members serving residents in municipalities located within the utility’s service area. Program information, eligibility guidelines and applications are available on the South Jersey Gas website at: www.southjerseygas.com/community.
