South Jersey Gas to Upgrade a Portion of Camden County System
for Customer and Infrastructure Reliability

South Jersey Gas received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to conduct an infrastructure upgrade along a five-mile corridor in a portion of Camden County. Work began on Monday, September 11.

Project Purpose:
The existing line is limited by size and operating pressure, and therefore not able to efficiently provide adequate natural gas delivery to satisfy Camden and Burlington County residents and businesses on peak demand days - the coldest days during the heating season. The upgrade will ensure service reliability for customers in these areas, enhancing local and system-wide infrastructure for years to come.

Construction Route:
The upgrade requires temporary construction along three Camden County roads (scroll down for detour maps):
  • East Atlantic Avenue
  • Laurel Road
  • Blackwood-Clementon Road

Safety:
At South Jersey Gas, safety is our priority. Keeping our customers, the community, and the environment protected shapes everything we do.

South Jersey Gas, along with J.F. Kiely Construction, the prequalified contractor working on this project, follows all required operating standards and procedures to ensure public safety while completing this work. Click here to learn more about Pipeline Safety.

Residents and Businesses along the route:
Natural gas service will continue uninterrupted during the project. Residents and businesses along the project route will have access to and from their properties at all times.

Jefferson Stratford Hospital (formerly Kennedy Hospital):
Please consider factoring additional time into your commute due to these temporary traffic patterns and expected traffic delays. Jefferson Stratford Hospital will remain open and during this project.

Detour Maps:
Below are detour maps for each of the project phases.

  • These maps will be updated regularly to assist local residents and businesses.
  • To plan the detours, South Jersey Gas worked with elected officials and police/EMS/fire departments in each of the affected municipalities, as well as Camden County officials to ensure the safest, most convenient route options for traffic.
  • To ensure smooth flow of vehicles through the detours, traffic control personnel will direct motorists and pedestrians around all work. Please travel slowly and follow all instructions provided by contractor representatives or police.
  • Please consider factoring additional time into your commute due to these temporary traffic patterns and expected traffic delays.
