Give Your Energy Bill a Spring Cleaning

Give Your Energy Bill a Spring Cleaning

Give your energy bill a spring cleaning with these savings tips!

Warmer weather is just around the corner. And with the new season comes a new opportunity to save energy and money at home. By adding a few housekeeping items to your spring-cleaning checklist, you can have a big impact on maintaining your home and lowering your energy bills over the months ahead.

  • Schedule a routine air conditioner maintenance. Replace filters and check your air conditioner’s evaporator coil – or call your service provider to make sure your system is running efficiently and ready for summer.
  • Open the windows. Let the fresh air in to create a natural cross breeze throughout your home. You can also try switching the direction of your ceiling fan to rotate counterclockwise to keep your home cooler.
  • Let in the light. Whether it’s swapping out heavy window treatments for sheer curtains or turning off the lights and using the sun to keep your home lit, take advantage of the natural light and longer daylight hours as much as possible.
  • Fire up the grill. Now’s a good time to remove your grill from storage, give it a good spring cleaning and get it ready for a busy BBQ season, while giving your oven a rest.
  • Turn down the water heater. By setting your water heater to a lower temperature, you’ll reduce energy consumption and save on your utility bill.
  • Get smart about your thermostat. March and April weather can be pretty unpredictable.

A smart thermostat can learn your patterns and increase or decrease the temperature from home or on the go from your smartphone.

Making your home more efficient takes a little effort but checking these items off your spring-cleaning checklist will go a long way in saving money and energy.
