Atlantic City Electric and South Jersey Gas celebrate New Jersey Careers in Utilities Week at GCIT

Approximately 200 students participated in the interactive event which focused on the importance of training and career opportunities available in the utility industry

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (October 19, 2022) — To celebrate the sixth-annual New Jersey Careers in Utilities Week, Atlantic City Electric and South Jersey Gas recently hosted a well-attended interactive information session for students at Gloucester County Institute of Technology (GCIT).

Approximately 200 students participated in the event, which featured employee presentations discussing career opportunities in the energy industry, hands-on utility truck tours and exploring the latest technology in a quickly changing industry.

“Opportunities like this help us do our part to build a foundation early for students to prepare for career options in the energy industry. We do this by designing a clear path for students to follow, garnering their interests and fostering specific skillsets,” said David Vosvick, vice president of human relations, Pepco Holdings, which includes Atlantic City Electric. “We understand the importance of workforce development which is why we are committed to investing in their future through our workforce development programs where we actively train the future of the energy industry.”

Careers in Utilities Week provides New Jersey utilities with the opportunity to celebrate the industry and highlight the importance of having a prepared and highly trained workforce to support the continued delivery of safe, reliable, affordable service, as well as the state economy.

"We're proud to have the opportunity to partner with GCIT as part of Careers in Utilities Week, where we have the opportunity to educate students on the abundance of career opportunities available within our organization,” said Brent Schomber, president and COO of South Jersey Gas. "We hope students feel encouraged to apply for our high school, college, trade and professional roles as they explore their options as they enter the workforce. We look forward to supporting their continued growth as the next generation of energy professionals."

In 2016, the State of New Jersey designated every third week in October as New Jersey Careers in Utilities Week.
