South Jersey Gas Begins Second Phase of $75M Camden County Reliability Project
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ, June 28, 2022 – In its continuing efforts to modernize and enhance the safety and reliability of its natural gas distribution system, South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of SJI (NYSE: SJI), recently started work on Phase II of its Camden County Reliability Project.
This $25M project represents the second phase of the overall $75M, three-phase project that will replace and modernize vintage and aging infrastructure that runs through portions of Gloucester Township, Pine Hill Borough and Winslow Township. The project aims to improve gas service reliability to Camden and Burlington Counties.
Approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, this project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also addressing low pressure and supply issues to ensure that customers have access to the energy they need even during severely cold weather events.
South Jersey Gas is also making its system ready to deliver the fuels of the future as parent company SJI makes significant strides in meeting its clean energy goals by developing renewable energy projects – a cornerstone of its strategic sustainability approach. As emerging technologies continue developing over time, SJI Utilities plans to lower its gas supply's carbon density by blending it with renewable fuels.
“This project is a perfect example of how South Jersey Gas uses infrastructure enhancements to serve the dual purposes of improving service for our customers while helping our State and region meet their clean energy goals,” says Brent Schomber, President and COO of South Jersey Gas.
Phase II of the Camden County Reliability Project is expected to last from June 2022 until February 2023 at which point South Jersey Gas anticipates beginning the third and final phase in Winslow Township.
