Public Hearings
Interruptible Gas Service Rate Schedule
We calculate the rate per therm of gas under the Interruptible Gas Service Rate Schedule monthly. For customers capable of having an alternate fuel capability of No. 6 oil, the appropriate price will be that of No. 6 oil. For customers that are not capable of having an alternate fuel capability of No. 6 oil, the appropriate price shall be that of No. 2 oil.

Basic Gas Supply Service Rates (BGSS)
Basic Gas Supply Service rates are designed to recover SJG’s cost of gas applicable to customers who purchase gas from SJG. We earn no profit from BGSS.
BGSS consists of two (2) pricing mechanisms:
- Periodic BGSS pricing is applicable to residential customers and commercial customers who consume less than 5,000 therms annually.
- Monthly BGSS pricing is applicable to commercial and industrial customers who consume at least 5,000 therms annually. Please refer to Rider A in the tariff for more information on BGSS Pricing.

Monthly BGSS Pricing
Monthly BGSS pricing was approved in 2006 by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. Commercial and industrial SJG customers who use at least 5,000 therms of natural gas annually have pricing for the natural gas commodity portion of their bill adjusted monthly. Monthly pricing helps to ensure that you are billed at a rate that more closely reflects the current market price of natural gas. Customers being supplied by someone other than SJG are billed per their agreement with their marketer.
Monthly BGSS pricing will include commodity costs for natural gas based on the monthly New York Mercantile Exchange settlement prices, costs for delivery of the natural gas to SJG and fixed pipeline demand charges. All monthly price changes will be provided to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities before they are implemented.
Delivery Charge
This charge recovers the cost of moving natural gas through our pipelines to the meter at your home and the cost of programs that benefit customers and the community. Refer to the Usage Costs section of South Jersey Gas - Understanding My Residential Bill for more detail.

In order to promote and ensure fair competition in New Jersey’s retail gas and electric markets, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) adopted the “Affiliate Relations, Fair Competition and Accounting Standards and Related Reporting Requirements” now codified in Title 14, Chapter 4 of the New Jersey Administrative Code (Affiliate Rules). The Affiliate Rules govern the interactions between regulated New Jersey utilities, like SJG and their unregulated energy affiliates. Simply put, SJG’s affiliates should not gain an unfair competitive advantage as result of their relationship with SJG.
The Affiliate Rules require SJG to notify interested parties of certain transactions or occurrences by and between SJG and its affiliates through “public postings.” SJG is committed to conducting business in full compliance with the Affiliate Rules, including the public notification requirements.
A complete copy of the Affiliate Rules, including information related to energy competition in New Jersey can be found at the BPU website, http://www.bpu.state.nj.us/.
